# Galactic Timeline — Phase 5

## Phase 5: The Long Exchange

**Time span:** When systems began to share material and influence across greater distances.

### Poem

What one released
another could take.

Dust that left a dying body
became the start
of something that had not
yet decided its shape.

The distance between them
was only a delay.
The material did not forget
where it had been.

### Facts

This phase covers the period in which matter and energy moved between separate systems in measurable amounts.

- Stars that ended returned some of their material to the surrounding space.
- That material could later be incorporated into new bodies.
- The process was slow; the delay between release and reuse could be long.
- No single system remained isolated once this exchange became common.

The poem treats the exchange as physical continuity. The delay is real, but the material carries its history.

### Spacing note
Phase 4 ends with dominant local centers.
Phase 5 begins when those centers and the spaces between them start to exchange material at scale.
The interval is the time required for the first generations of stars to complete their cycles.
