# Galactic Timeline — Phase 4

## Phase 4: The Heavy Centers

**Time span:** When the largest gatherings pulled in enough matter to change the light around them.

### Poem

The center grew quiet
by taking in what came close.

Light that entered
did not leave the same.
It bent.
It slowed.
Some of it stayed.

What circled outside
kept moving
because it had not yet
been asked to stop.

### Facts

This phase covers the growth of the most massive early structures and the first strong effects on surrounding light and motion.

- Dense cores formed where many smaller bodies had already gathered.
- The gravity of those cores altered the paths of nearby objects and the travel of light.
- Not all matter fell in; much of it remained in orbit or continued outward.
- The observable signature of these centers is both the light they emit and the light they bend.

The poem describes the center as quiet because the most dramatic effects happen to what approaches it, not to the center itself.

### Spacing note
Phase 3 ends with the first stable small systems.
Phase 4 begins when some of those systems grow large enough to dominate their surroundings.
The gap is the time required for continued accretion.
